Chemical peels are performed using acidic treatments applied to the face to facilitate the removal, or “peeling”, of damaged skin cells in a controlled fashion. This allows for the growth of newer and healthier tissue to grow in it’s place. This typically occurs as skin “flakes” off in the days following the treatment. Chemical peels are good for mild to moderate skin damage, and work better in certain skin types versus others. Most patients experience some degree of temporary sun sensitivity after treatment, but recovery is otherwise quite rapid.
