Laser resurfacing uses laser energy to remove the superficial layers of the skin — those most affected by age and chronic sun exposure. Removing this layer allows a new, healthier layer to grow in it’s place. The laser stimulates the creation of new a collagen, a structural element in the skin that is important for skin strength and texture. The treatment helps smoothen out fine lines in the skin, along with scarring and many discolorations.
Some patient’s experience bleeding, bruising after the procedure, especially for the first week while the skin is raw. The skin remains pink for several weeks after the procedure, though this can be easily concealed. Post-operative skin care, including the use of lubricating ointments and sun screen is critical. Most patients are happy after a single treatment.
